Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Plant Fitter to maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of plant machinery and equipment. The successful candidate will ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently while minimising downtime and supporting operational productivity.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, service, and repair plant machinery and heavy equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults
  • Carry out preventative maintenance according to schedules
  • Replace defective parts and components
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and fitting work where required
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs
  • Test machinery after repair to ensure proper operation
  • Liaise with operators, supervisors, and suppliers regarding equipment issues

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Plant Fitter or Mechanical Fitter
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read technical manuals
  • Fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Welding and fabrication experience advantageous
  • Good problem-solving abilities
  • Full driving licence

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in plant mechanics, engineering, or operations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, including LOLER & PUWER.
  • Training certificates in plant operations, inspection regimes, or mechanical disciplines beneficial.

 

Working Conditions

  • Workshop and site-based work
  • Involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions
