Job Title: Electrical Sub-Metering & Design Engineer (Commercial)

Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Metering Electrician to carry out electrical surveys across commercial properties, identify and document metering and sub-metering configurations, trace circuits, produce building electrical schematics, compile technical reports, and install/commission new sub-metering equipment. This role is ideal for a commercial/industrial electrician with strong analytical ability, excellent documentation skills, and experience working with energy monitoring or power distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities
Site Surveys & Circuit Identification
- Visit commercial sites to assess existing electrical infrastructure.
- Identify all meters on site and determine which circuits or loads they feed.
- Trace circuits back to distribution boards using appropriate tools and methods.
- Verify supply phases, breaker ratings, and meter configurations.
Sub-Meter Installation & Commissioning
- Install and configure new electrical sub-meters, CTs, pulse meters, or smart meters.
- Ensure installations comply with electrical regulations and site safety standards.
- Test, commission, and record meter readings and functionality.
- Liaising with our construction and projects teams to ensure correct specification of meters are being installed on new builds and refurbishments
Documentation & Schematics
- Produce accurate single-line diagrams, circuit maps, and electrical schematics (CAD experience preferred).
- Update or create distribution board schedules.
- Maintain structured documentation for each building.
Reporting
- Compile detailed technical reports summarising findings, circuit mapping, meter locations, issues identified, and improvement recommendations.
- Present clear documentation to management, clients, or project teams.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Qualified commercial with understanding of MEICA delivery in commercial settings
- Strong experience with sub-metering, energy monitoring, or commercial distribution systems.
- Ability to trace circuits and understand complex DB setups.
- Competent with CAD or electrical drawing software (AutoCAD, Visio, or similar).
- Excellent reporting, diagramming, and documentation skills.
- Able to read/interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability.Desirable Skills
- Experience installing CTs, pulse meters, or smart metering systems.
- Knowledge of power quality analysis or energy management.
- Experience working in multi-site commercial environments.
- Knowledge of BMS/BEMS systems.
