Overview
The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all construction plant in the field. This role oversees maintenance, inspections, compliance, innovation, and day-to-day performance of all onsite plant, ensuring high standards and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
1. Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure all plant and machinery comply with UK Health & Safety regulations, including LOLER and PUWER.
- Conduct weekly site audits, daily compliance checks, and unannounced spot inspections on our sites and plant yards
2. Maintenance Management
- Support the implementation of all scheduled servicing and statutory inspections.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed efficiently and effectively.
- Support responses to breakdowns to minimise operational disruption.
3. Staff Management
- Manage, lead and support a team of three Fitters.
- Monitor performance and ensure high-quality workmanship and compliance.
4. Budgeting
- Ensure cost-effective operational performance
5. Quality Assurance
- Oversee fuel quality, including sampling, tank checks, and reporting.
- Maintain high standards of plant reliability and performance.
6. Records & Reporting
- Maintain accurate administrative records, including maintenance logs, service reports, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Produce weekly and monthly operational reports as required.
7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement new ideas and improvements to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and productivity.
Experience Required
- Proven experience in construction plant operations
- Strong practical understanding of plant machinery, maintenance procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Experience supervising or managing plant fitter team.
Qualifications (Preferred but Not Essential)
- Relevant qualifications in plant mechanics, engineering, or operations.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, including LOLER & PUWER.
- Training certificates in plant operations, inspection regimes, or mechanical disciplines beneficial.
